Breakfast at The Blue Duck

Me and my friend Shokoofeh had breakfast at The Blue Duck today. It was a pretty freshening experience. Though I haven't really been to that many places in Tehran that serve breakfast, in order to compare The Blue Duck with them, still I can say that The Blue Duck was pretty good on its own.

You should know that if you get there and you don’t have to wait in line you’re pretty lucky, otherwise you’ll have to sign up and wait around for the better half of an hour until it’s your turn. If there aren’t any people standing in line you go straight up to the podium where a lady asks your name and writes it down (to later put the check in), she then asks how many of you there are and shows you the available tables which you can choose from. If there are more than four of you, you have the benefit of sitting at the comfortable sofa-like benches near the windows which will give you a view. There’s only one table-for-two near the window which isn’t that comfortable because it’s surrounded by two benches on either sides which will kind of hinder your way to the buffet.

Like any other buffet, once you’re seated, you don’t have to wait around for a waiter; you can get straight up and start digging in. As for the food you have two (plus one) options, you can either head for the cold foods, the hot foods, or both. The cold buffet includes things that you can normally find around in your own house, cheese, butter, jam, cereals and stuff like that. The warm buffet is much more appealing. There are porridges, omelets, pancakes, French toast, and much more. The exciting thing here is that whether its sunny side up, scrambled, or a special kind of omelet, you can have your eggs done any way you want. All you gotta do is choose the ingredients and tell the chef how you want them and voila! You’ll be charged 8000 tomans for each buffet; that is if you choose to eat only out of the cold or hot buffet that’ll be 8000, but if you want to try both the price will be doubled. The crazy thing here is that if there are two of you and one chooses to eat from the cold foods and the other from the hot, you’re not going to be allowed to share your food with each other! If you do they’ll suppose that you have both ate from both the buffets so you’ll be charged 16grand each. Another thousand is charged separately for drinks. The drinks include coffee, tea, and orange juice, and you can have as many refills as you want. You can get the orange juice by yourself but you'll have to ask a waiter for the hot drinks. There were some fruits by the orange juice stand as well. You also have a choice of different breads and pastries like croissants, muffins, and Swiss rolls. No extra charge for the fruits and bread.

For me it was a memorable morning with a great friend and lots of coffee! If you decide to head over for breakfast I’m sure it has its share of nice things for you to remember as well. So give yourself a treat and try it out, I'm sure you won't regret it.

The address is: Tandis Center, Jaafar Abaad Street, Tajrish Sq. Tehran, and breakfast hours are 8 AM - 11 AM
